Bloomsburg Sweeps Pair from West Chester in Softball

WEST CHESTER--The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from West Chester on Wednesday by scores of 8-0 and 9-1.

In game one, the Huskies got all they would need in the third inning when they put six runs on the board. Lisa Bohner (Northumberland/Shikellamy) had the big hit in the inning with a three-run homer, while Melissa Leeper (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis), Missy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) and Stacey Krupiewski (Trooper/Methacton) each had an RBI in the inning. The Huskies made it 8-0 in the fifth inning when Bachert singled home two runs.

Ashley Lynn earned the win while striking out five and not allowing a walk.

In game two, Bloomsburg scored three runs in both the second and third innings to back the two-hit pitching of Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport). In the second inning, Reed helped her own cause by banging a two-out, bases loaded triple scoring three runs. Bloomsburg made it 6-0 in the third inning when Jennifer Davis (Center Valley/St. Patricks-St. Vincents) hit a two-out, bases loaded double and stretched the lead to 8-0 in the fourth when Tara Emery (Sunbury/Shikellamy) hit a two-run double.

Reed fanned 12 and did not walk a batter and improved to 9-3 on the year.

Bloomsburg goes to 22-8, 5-1 in the PSAC East, while West Chester falls to 16-12, 1-4 in the PSAC East.

The Huskies host Mansfield on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
